The First Amendment NetworkNFPW continually works for all Americans to protect First Amendment rights through our First Amendment Network. All members are part of this grassroots system that notifies FAN members when issues need action. Members then can respond to their congressional offices or state and federal agencies. Recently issues include working to stop federal tariffs on newsprint that can stifle the ability of newspapers to meet the needs of their readers and working in individual states to pass legislation protection high school journalists from censorship. NFPW also participates in Sunshine Week, an annual event that heightens awareness of First Amendment issues. Sunshine Week occurs each year in mid-March, coinciding with James Madison’s birthday and National Freedom of Information Day on the 16th.
